The Dagling was also a Slingsby - it was also known as the T-3. By the time I 
started lessons, (around 1970) the UK military no longer allowed primary 
flight instruction in single seaters :-(    Everyone had to start dual and 
progress to solo flight like we do today, so the T-21 and T-31 were the main first 
trainers. 

My father had over 50 hours in his book before his first ever dual flight - 
and that was for aerobatic training !
