You guys might want to have a look here at some of the mods folks have made
to the cougar.
After going through the newsgroup for the cougar I was pretty disappointed
in it. So many issues, for a 300 dollar HOTAS.
I told these guys when it was a gleam in their eyes that pots really sucked
and wouldn't last. They countered with there digital BS and better quality.
Turns out pots SUX no matter what. Pots are just not up to the task.

There is also a guy that has a mod for adding hal effect devices to replace
the pots.

Marv, you might consider posting your mod at the cougar forums when you

That's very interesting, Marv. I'm 5'7", well within norms, but I've been
worried slightly about just how cozy that fixed stick is going to be. I
plan to check it out within the week, as I am finally THERE - ready to do a
final fit and glue up of the Aimsworth parts. (Aside: - I know how to
modifiy the original Aimsworth cockpit, and if anyone wants to know, ask.
It was not nearly as accurate as one would want, and hopefully this has been
rectified in their new pit. )
By the way, Marv, have you ever had the fun of manhandling a real Viper
FLCS? I was wondering about the pivot point on your wonderstick mod. For
practical reasons (the unknown real strength of the Thrusty Cougar stick
core) I'm moving my gimbal to the bottom of the base. I'd like a little
more play, too. Might not be 100% Viper, but there's always a fudge factor.
