<div>The main Cougar core is cast metal, Marv.&nbsp; Folks have=
complained that the metal used is somewhat soft, since it also=
forms the bearings for the joystick gimbal pivots, and they tend=
to develop minute amounts of &quot;play&quot; over time.&nbsp;=
This leads me to believe that the cast core could break if=
subjected to repetitive force loads of the RW F-16=
variety.&nbsp; Moving the pivot from the center of the housing=
2&quot; lower into the base should result in approximately=
1/2&quot; tp 1&quot; of play, which will translate to about 3 -=
 4 times that at a distance of approximately 12 - 15&quot; from=
the pivot (not to mention a reduced force load due to the=
increased lever arm).&nbsp; This movement could be translated to=
a standard joystick gimbal that incorporates the stock Cougar=
pots, something I'd really like to do, given their precision and=
proven interface with the Coug's electronics.&nbsp; Once one=
nips the gimbal pivots off of the Cougar core, it will slide=
into 3/4&quot; gas pipe with room to spare.&nbsp; This forms the=
beginning of a new core that extends the afformentioned 12 -=
15&quot;, albeit stepped down at some point to 1/2&quot; gas=
pipe, and mounted in a new gimbal composed of inline skate=
 bearings.&nbsp; I want &quot;robust&quot; too, but with a degree=
of play more closely matched to my superspiffy pedals.=
 ;-)<br></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Thanks for the detailed info, and the terrific war=
story.&nbsp; Sounds like the guy should have put out a line for=
some good fishing, if he was that close to scoopin' soup.=
 ;-)<br></div>
