Jumpers found on EPIC

When you unpack your card, you will notice that there are three sets of jumpers located on it.
Name of the jumperset
Where to find them
Hardware interrupt
Near ISA bus connector
EEPROM write select
Center of the card
Anolog type select
Top of card
Here's what they do:

With the hardware interrupt jumper you select a interrupt of 7, 10 or 12. It is not used at this time and the default setting is none.

The EEPROM write select jumper needs only to be changed when you are writing to the optional EEPROM.

With the analog type select jumper you select the type of analog input (modified or standard) for analog channels 0 thru 3. They must be set according to the input type and must also match the type selected in your .JOY file. The default settings are for standard (unmodified) pots.

Note:

If you are using standard (unmodified, ungrounded like most off the shelf joysticks) analogs, they must be connected to channels 0 thru 3. All analogs devices attached to analog channels 4 thru 15 must be modified (grounded pots).

Once you installed EPIC into a 16-Bit ISA slot, you'll notice that the card has two connectors at the back. One is a 37-Pin that connects to your first expansion module and the other is a PS/2 keyboard plug.

Connecting your Keyboard

Standard Joystick

Together with EPIC you get a keyboard Y-cable with 2 male and 1 female plugs. Simply plug your keyboard into the female plug and the male plug (PS/2 style) into the keyboard port located on EPIC. Finally connect the second male plug of the Y-cable (with an adaptor) into the normal keyboard plug of your PC.
You're all done and ready to use EPIC.

Thrustmaster Joystick

If you are using a Thrustmaster F22 joystick (like I do) you have two options:

Leave it in its original state

If you decided to leave the joystick in it's original state, simply plug the male-plug that you connected with the PC into your TM joystick and the keyboard out from the Joystick into your PC.

With this setup you will have to write your joystickfiles with the TM software and use your stick as you did until now. You will not be able to program your joystickbuttons using EPL.

Apply the modification kit
I recommend that you purchase the FLCS modification kit from R&R and modify your joystick according to the instructions included in the kit.

This way you can connect the keyboard as you would have a standard joystick. The buttons on your joystick will be recognized by EPIC and thus allowing you to include them in your EPL file.

And finally connect the DB-37 plug with the cable that is supplied to the expansion module

After you've done all this, you are ready to tell Windows that you just installed a new Hardware.
