If you can reach the pot, can you see if there's a cold solder joint on 
any of the leads?  Have you tried testing it with a voltmeter and a 9v 
battery?

If you're very careful and take a ton of photos of the assembly as you 
take it apart, you should be able to get it back together without much 
hassle.
