If you tell someone who knows no better that they need 2x4 they will ask 
for 2x4. If they can't find it in their local DIY superstore they may 
try a timber merchant ( where it would be cheaper anyway), they will be 
sold 2x4 or its metric equivient 100 x 50 which is still the wrong size. 
If you only plan to sell in the US then no prob but elsewhere it may be 
different. No criticism just an observation.
The pits are fantastic both in design and construction and may well 
encourage many more lunatics over to the dark side of cockpit construction.
