hi, David
good up-front agonizing.
your modeling suggests discrete lines at the limit of visible areas. it's
good to think about view "volumes" - the areas subtended by precisely the
vectors you've plotted. it depends on how sexy your 3D program is.
also, unless you are going to develop a stereoscopic setup (and i'm still
scratching my head on this one), the "vanishing point" (ie: where infinity
lies) remains on a single point on the screen.
in a side-by-side arrangement, this means that you either "set" infinity
directly ahead of you (which doesn't work for the co-pilot), or you set it
in the center - which doesn't work well for either of you.
i regularly fly with it in the center. only 1 visitor has spotted the
problem. YES, this makes things very much like just flying with an 8-foot
monitor. it would be a good experiment to move the eye the proper amount to
the left or right (within the craft) & observe what happens. i've done this
in train-sim with very good results.
as far as what (how much) you see out the window, i still set this somewhat
subjectively. this is usually about .75 zoom - it just "feels" comfortable
compared with real life.
i'll be curious about your actual results after your more serious work.
