Goodness, just take the proper precautions.  I've been sanding away on and
ACES and other stuff with the zinc chromate primer.  Just go buy a quality
respirator

Before I suggest something, make DAMN sure to check my work as I've never 
done this, only heard it suggested at the airport.

Supposedly wet sanding it is ok as long as you flood the part with water. As

in run a hose over it constantly. No dust to worry about then.
