Brian,

I just read your post about the panel. Is it a Mercury
capsule?

As for material, why not use sheet aluminum? If
it is too hard to work with, then use the fiberglass
but laminate it to tempered hardboard. It will have less
flex. Rigidity can be added by laminating strips of
the same material at strategic locations on the
back side.

For light legends, I was thinking about using a drawing
program to make the label in color, use a color laser
printer or inkjet to print it on the appropriate mylar
film (like for overhead projection), then get some thin
plexiglass like is used for storm door window replacement,
scribe and break for protective cover. There might be
thinner clear plastic at a hobby or art supply store.
