[simpits-tech] What's that stuff?

Was watching a show last night called Overhaulin, it's about modifying cars 
and SUV with some pranking. Anyways, I noticed this guy redoing the center 
console for this SUV,  using a basic frame of wood and adding this type of 
material or fabric on top of it , making sure it was stretch and then 
stapled, then he applied this grey thick liquid all over it and waited to 
cure and harden

What's that grey stuff and material he was using ? When he was finish with 
the center console, it looked unbeleavable, like it came out of a factory
