[simpits-tech] Software reports

Geez, Brian. That's a loaded question.

Well, the short version is that a great many of the troops that were making
legit data mods and less than legit exe mods were brought together under one
roof a few years back to create the SuperPAK series of updates to Falcon.
They worked with the blessings of the current owner, G2 Interactive, aka
Claude Cavanaugh. As of SP3, the fidelity of Falcon has greatly improved,
too many updates to mention. It might not be as purty as LOMAC, but it's
still holding it's own as one of the, if not *the* best high fidelity combat
flight simulation. Purty will happen with Falcon Gold, Operation Infinite
Resolve, where the sim upgrades to DX9. That's due out soon, as is SP4,
which is nothing but further data updates. There's another party working
with the original F4 source code, Benchmark Sims (BMS), and they are making
still further enhancements to the executable, a process that was handed over
to them by G2I after SP3 was released. The whole SuperPAK and BMS thing is
going to get mixed together to make OIR, which is an interim release pending
Falcon 5, due out in, oh, a few years or so. The biggest convenience of OIR
will be the single point of installation, as opposed to the conflagration of
stuff that has to be done to get F4 installed on one's system in the most up
to date form. A big nutshell, but there she be.

Unfortunately, it would take hours to objectively describe the political
infighting and incendiary histrionics that have gone on in the community -
and I am but a distant outside observer. I'm sure there are folks in this
group that could unwind many a hairy war story about all the personalities,
back stabbing, etc., that has gone on in the community. But from this
competition and general fecundity, a pretty spiffy sim is emerging. I can't
wait to get my next pit going so I can go fly the unfriendly skies!

Help??

;-)

Steve
