[simpits-tech] Looking for batteries

Let me give you my Sony laptop battery journey. Had the same thing happen
about a year ago. My laptop was about 1.5 yrs old and the battery didn't
work. It would flash on the laptop like it was charging, but wouldn't hold
a charge. Looked on eBay and there a boat load of them. Get one, plug it
in, charges up and all is great. It works, just like the original one did.
Well, I don't use my laptop every day so it sat in its case for a month.
When I go to pull it out, it won't start dead battery. Figure, battery
discharged, we'll plug it in and charge it right back up. Now with the new
battery, the same thing. It won't hold a charge. Seems like keeping it in
the laptop fubared it somehow. I, too, had one of those screaming fits you
just mentioned.

So, before you go "fixing" your battery, keep in mind my story. It's fun
pissing away $100 for a battery to work once and then have your laptop eat
it.

This isn't going to be fun. Here's the story. 3 years ago I bought a Sony
laptop. 2.5 years ago the battery died. 2.49999 years ago I had a screaming,
yelling, chair throwing fit after being told to piss off by Sony tech
support since batteries have basically no warranty. Being the stubborn guy I
am I decided tonight that instead of just buying a new battery when I order
all the new computer goodies that I'd open up the corpse and see what kinda
cells are in there. I knew it was a lithium ion pack, but had no clue past
that. I found 8 3.7v 1300 mAH cells, a pair in parallel, 4 pairs in series,
and a small board that evidently does all the magic LIon crap that scares
the bejeezus out of me (I've seen a LIon pack blow before). Ok, this I can
deal with, assuming I can find the cells. Anyone know where to find 8 Sony
US17670GR cells? Or am I going to be forced to buy a pack from somewhere?

He who seeks will find, and he who knocks will be let in.
