How much RAM will this box have? You'll need at least 32MB of RAM, and even
at that, ME will want to create a swap file that's probably at least 16 -
40MB big.

Try this, if you can cram 512MB RAM into the box.

Install ME onto the box using a basic HD. Then trim out the unwanted files.
Once the size is down, ZIP the HD image. Copy a Win98 start disk on the CF
card. Modify the script that creates the RAM drive to make it 300MB (or
however large you need it) and unzip the HD into the RAM drive and transfer
control over to the RAM drive.

Initial boot time will be slow, but the box should fly once running.
