You also have to remove the stop on one of the nylon gears to allow =
continuous rotation.  I knew from hacking servos for mini robots that =
this was possible.  However, I don't know how to align the rotation of a =
servo with the data input from the compass heading.  I think that a =
stepper motor may be the only way.

To get a RC servo to go more than 180' just remove the pot wires and =
replace with a resistor of half the value of the pot , the servo can =
never find home and so will rotate in either direction forever!

Has anyone thought of floppy drives ? they contain stepper motors [ for =
the read/write heads ] more than capable of driving gauges with built in =
driver electrics if you re-use the electronics they come with , they =
usually just need one signal to alert the motor and then a either up or =
down signal for direction.
