I get sheet aluminum in 4'x 8' sheets from a supplier that sells to HVAC contractors. They sell ventilation
duct and roofing copper. I've been retrofitting my old house with in-floor radiant heat and make 16"x24"
panels that staple to the sub-floor. The supplier cuts the panels to order from the large sheets. This was
1/2 the price of buying from a radiant heat supplier. The thickness I'm using is 0.032". The supplier will
be looking for a "gage" number: http://www.evergreen.edu/biophysics/technotes/fabric/sheet_metal.htm

Aluminum comes in different harnesses; from tempered to "dead soft". If you buy the right alloy, you can
harden and anneal the pieces in you oven. Aluminum is the opposite of steel in that quick cooling softens and
slow cooling hardens the metal.

Those of you that use sheet aluminum in your pits...

Where do you find .032 and thicker sheets of aluminum (locally and at a decent price)? I can't find anything
thicker than .025 at my local hardware and home improvement outlets. Is my only option to order from an
aircraft supply outlet (and pay for minimum order charges and shipping)? Advice?

Keenan
