Well, I think I'll just have this guy send me his headset and have a go at 
it. Why not, right? This is a custom job, so I'll be able to rake it in ;)

I think you would be well served by going to the uni's theatre group (if
there is one there) and finding out where they get their intercom gear if
they use it.  Better yet, find out the name of the mfgr that built the
guys' headset and ask them. :)
