Don't even bother trying to bend MDF by any method involving water. Doing so 
you actually lose a lot of the strength of the board due to the way in which 
the board is made.

Plywood however is a different affair and can be steam bent to your hearts 
content just be careful as plywood can delaminate. The best thing to do is 
make a mould and then bend it slowly in stages using clamps to hold it while 
it drys after each bend. This way you prevent the wood getting too wet and 
so causing it to delaminate, and you reduce the stress on it preventing it 
from breaking as you bend it. Fine it does take a little longer but its well 
worth the time and effort.
