Jonas,
Don't even think of using anything ROUND as in piping - it bends far too
easy. Forget timber too. For a motion platform I'd use nothing less than
heavy square steel tubing or similar welded together - with crossbracing.
The motion platform will have to move in at least two or three planes so it
HAS to be extremely strong and rigid. Also your simulator is going to end up
being very heavy esp. when you have two or three people sitting in it. My
F-111 sim is very heavy by itself - I need a hydraulic car jack and stands
to raise it enough to work underneath.
If you intend to use motion, you must also ensure that your simulator
frame\structure is sound. Again I wouldn't use timber. My F-111 has timber
framing\ribs etc that are glued, bolted and screwed together firmly but it
can still go out of shape even when I just wheel it around to reposition it
! I found this out when I went to refit my canopies. The alignment was out
on each by a good inch !!!
