 Can you explain me difference between IFF modes ?

I am not Gene, but I can explain the different modes for IFF.
Mode 1 is the basic original type of IFF, it only has two sets of three
values, 1,2,or 4.
Mode 3 is similar to mode 3, except that you can now show codes up to 7777.
Mode 4 is mode 3 with the addition of altitude readout.
Mode A was just an altitude addition to early civilian iff that only had
mode 3.
Mode 2 is for military use.
