It's not turned around, really.  This is exactly how the 0/256/0 and EPIC
input matrices are designed to be wired up.

That would increase the pc board complexity as well as increase the part
count and thus overall cost of the keyboard.  Besides, a keyboard in
"normal" everyday use doesn't have to read more than 3 keys simultaneously
anyway.
