Hi Gene,

Yes you can cheat by giving each guy his own forward view, but you dont get
that neat cross cockpit effect we all know and love from real life.
DOESNT COMPROMISING SUCK?
I worked an AH-64D program a couple of years ago. Our Simulator cab was
mounted on a Motion Platform and placed in front of a Huge dome ( half dome)
it was a SEOS ( with six barco projectors) and was 600,000 dollars just for
the dome and projectors. The people we built the cockpit for who integrated
all of this, had to decide if the Design Eye Point was going to be optimized
for the Front seater (co-pilot gunner) or the rear seat occupant ( pilot).
So even in an TANDEM arrangement, collomation is an issue.
L3COM ( now LINK) gave me a surplus F/A-18 simulator visual system
structure. It was brand new ( 27K) but lacked mirrors. It will however
support a large curved screen for three projectors to project onto. I am
just going to have to bias the visual at the Aircraft Commanders side of the
F-111. I want approximately 120 degrees of horizontal and 60 degrees of
vertical in my visual field. Luckily, unlike its little brother, the F-111
is not known for its good visiblity ( ie. ask your WSO to clear you in a
formation turn so you dont hit your wingie for whom you cannot see) I am in
the same delima as the airliner guys, but, I am the AIRCRAFT COMMANDER in my
F-111, so I am gonna bias it to ME!
:)
