Actually until 3 years ago Montana did not have a speed limit. Maybe I should rephrase
that...We actually had a speed limit but it was never enforced. In fact a lot of foreign
car manufacturers used to bring fleets of their prototype cars to Montana to run them
flat out to check their handling characteristics. I recall about 2 years ago Mercedes
Benz brought a fleet of about 20 cars and were traveling about 145 mph when they got
pulled over by the Montana Highway Patrol and ticketed. They didn't know we were now
enforcing the speed limits. You can still get away with about 20 mph over the posted
limit of 75 mph but don't push it over that.
