If you are worried about strength, you can always use the printed plastic
parts as molds for loss casting. Loss casting is where you use a material
like wax, or in this case plastic, as your mold positive.  You don't have to
remove the mold positive, you pour your casting material into the mold and
the positive is destroyed leaving the cast part.  

One major advantage of using your printed parts for loss casting is the PLA
tends to be durable enough that you can test the fit of part in place, how
it will wear, and trim and carve modifications all before you cast the final
part.

Oh, Gean - I've added a CNC Sieg X3 mill and (as of yesterday) a new G4000
metal lathe to my shop since we last conversed.  Now I just need to learn
how to use all this new equipment and I can make parts for folks on the list
:)

I used ABS plastic on this one - it's VERY strong.  You can use a number of
different materials including PLA and a special version of nylon called
Nylon 618.
