The video shows a test rig I built that uses an Allegro A1302 hall effect 
device.  The idea is to build a drop-in replacement for any 
voltage-dividing potentiometer application.  It's crazy simple to build.

You can buy the A1302 from Jameco for about $1.30 each.  They take 5V in 
and spit out a 0..5V signal based on the position of two opposing magnets.
