I'm not sure about crazier THAN...crazy as yes, crazier than...no, not a guy
who has his own fuselage section and then built a purpose shop around it
with mills and bots and freakin laser beams.

uhh...about that laser beam thing, it is entirely untrue about Gene trying to capture the neighbors chickens to make them wear hats with lasers attached. 
He simply was returning the chickens to the neighbors yard.
