I have some pics of the setup but no website of my own to
post them on. Anyone out there with a facility to make a
link to the pics if I email the pics to them as attachments?

Ido, I think what he did was to strip the laptop of it's case and misc. 
other bits and ended up with just the laptop motherboard (and it's display 
controller) connected to the display.
