yup, 

if you want to use Nvidia cards, you need to use a board with an Nvidia
chipset, 
and if you want to use ATI cards you need an Intel chipset

for Nvidia you should get the 790i chipset and for intel the X58

BUT - it depends on how urgent the computer buy is ?
if you can wait till October/November - Intel are going to have a new
architecture for the CPU with completely new boards and CPUs so if you can
wait - do.
