[simpits-tech] Mercury and other capsules

Well I'm looking at basically the same thing, however I'm not planning on "modeling" the outside per se. I could care less what the outside looks like! lol. As such I'm probably not gonna use an actual "hatch" for access. I've considered having the whole side swing open to make getting in and out easier. Since there really isn't anything on the right side, other than one small panel which can move right with the door, that should work out well. I'm too big and fat to be squeezing myself through a hatch every time I wanna fly! lol. Heck I'm 6'4", I'm looking at the distinct possibility I'll have to make the interior dimensions of the capsule a hair larger than the real thing just so I will FIT!

I'm gonna be busy this weekend but once I get back I'll start poking through documents and getting you some dimensions to work with. I used to have a 3d model of my plan but it got lost in a hd crash a few years ago. However I have a new 3d cad program on order right now, as soon as I get it I'll be doing some more work. :)

I'm still trying to organize all the documents I have, too. Once I have them sorted I'll put them all online and send out the link.

Brian

> That is AWESOME that you are doing this as well. VERY cool. I would love to see some of your docs! Let me ask you this. I am thinking real basic outside. So well, to start out with I would cut a plywood circle. Not sure of the diameter yet though. Then basically cut 2x2's at the correct angle for the bulkhead. Then cover with some 1/8 paneling. Not sure how I would do the groves around the sides though. But the hatch, well once I hade all the 2x2's covered, so basically having a cone at this point, cut a large hatch out. I dunno, that is where I am as far as the thinking process
