I'm in touch with the seller trying to verify the authenticity.

She says her husband got it from a guy who worked at NASA who didn't want to part with it but now he's "dieing frmo the world trade center disease" and is selling everything.

Hmmm.... Sounds fishy to me, but stranger things have happened.

She also claims to have talked to someone at Lunn Laminates who built the thing. I'm asking for his contact info, as well as more pictures.

The capsules intended use sounds about right, airdropped with a monkey inside hooked to various medical sensors. But I'm still trying to track down whether such missions actually existed leading up to Mercury.

In short, if I can verify that it is what it is, I'll probably be in contact with the National Museum of the USAF here in Dayton. If it's not.... I don't have the money to spare for toys right now. :(
