Thanks Richard,  I did some reading, and it looks like if I want to do this 
via FSUIPC I will need to buy v3.* and widefs v6.*
I suppose, since I just got FS2004 it's time to start saving and buy FSUIPC.

In the interim I'll run another switch into the pit from the RW machine, 
sounds easier :)
