John, from what I have read, some civilian headsets work very nicely with just a plug conversion, while others do not. You just have to plug it in and find out what it sounds like. Brian's headset box is really intended for those that have poor audio quality with just a plug conversion. I can't recall off hand what the circuit does, but I believe it amplifies or cleans up the microphone output, damned if I can't find the file I had on this stuff. Brian sent it to me once before but I can't find it.

You can get the conversion cable here and many other places like it: http://www.spinnerspilotshop.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/scstore/p-pa-88.html?L+scstore+vrks9250ffedf9ed+1084243374

They also sell many other types of cables and pilot supply goodies. There are many sites on the internet like this one.

<<You will need to buy an adapter plug that converts your single military U-174 plug to a civilian headset and mic plug. >>

Where do we get these adapters? I have a mil set of David Clarks I want to use for civilian aviation.

I am confused since I find that civilian headsets convert to PC easily with a simple radio Shack big mic to little mic adapter. What does Brian's box do?

    John

<<NO Steve, these boxes will not convert a military mic to a pc input type. They are different impedances. You will need to buy an adapter plug that converts your single military U-174 plug to a civilian headset and mic plug. Now you need to be careful to not buy just the adapter, but you must buy the adapter that also converts the impedance as well. The plug adapter alone will not work, you MUST convert the impedance as well. Once you have done this, then you build one of Brian's little boxes and this converts the civilian plugs to pc plugs.
