[simpits-tech] RE: Simpits-tech Digest, Vol 5, Issue 23 - pedal force

If you are talking about F-16 pedals then the force is constant and
doesn't depend on airspeed like other aircraft. Nissim Hadar

I was thinking of making it a closed system. 2 cylinders per axis. For
example, each rudder pedal would have a cylinder attached to it and the
cylinders would be connected to each other with the needle valve between
them.

The problem there is that you're changing the center point. You need
pressure
to build as you increase pedal input, with a needle valve between the
two
cylinders it would initially build but then start to taper off,
eventually
equalizing if you held a constant rudder input. I've always thought the
best
way to set up a pneumatic system would be to adjust pressure in the
cylinders
with airspeed. You'd still have a constant amount of air in the cylinder
for
a given speed, hence pressure would build as volume decreases, as you
depress
the pedal/yoke/stick, but this pressure would increase as airspeed in
the sim
increased. You'd have to have some serious regulators though.

OK, think I'm gonna try my Dremel with a cutting disc first on the
throttle
idea, just wondering, when cutting/sanding painted areas of the case
(either
on the chassis or on the case cover) do I need any kind of dust mask or
anything? The chassis is painted with some sort of flat gray stuff, the
white
on the case cover I'd guess is epoxy based but not sure.

It's always a good idea to wear some sort of dust mask when doing stuff
like
that. [soapbox] Also, wear safety glasses. I get tired of plucking
metal
from corneas because people don't take the time to wear safety glasses.

Cover all the spots you're cutting with masking tape. It tends to catch
the
dust and schrapnel that cutoff wheels produce. Also remember that cutoff
wheels work with high speed, not high pressure, so let the blade work. I
hope you got reinforced wheels. The cheap ones last about 1/10th as long
as
reinforced.

Hi, Pete!

nice pit, looking good...what's the 2nd computer for?

just for us Mozilla/Firebird users - please, do _not_ use backslashes
("\") in your <img>-tags, they are not html-conform.
(i.e. http://www.angelfire.com/falcon/rules0/images\pit01.JPG should be

Matt - its _always_ good practice to wear a mask. Even the cheapo ones
will trap a suprising amount of FOD which is better out than in!

Remember to sand with a fairly light grade of wet'n'dry before spraying
for a better, more durable finish.

Roy.

Never mind the soapbox... *BULLHORN* WEAR SAFETY SPECS!

Even the smallest spec of metal in the eye hurts like hell, and then
some.
