On a lot of older aircraft with aluminium panels, many of the 'labels' are
stamped or engraved and the panels are usually black with white lettering.

I've often wondered how they did this... I finally found an old timer who
chuckled as he explained that the bare panel had the areas of lettering
painted white, then the black was applied using a roller. This prevented
the black paint getting into the recesses which form the text.
