Several years ago I went to a Family Fun Center in San Diego, California, that had some
really neat tank units. They had fiberglass bodies built on golf cars. Two people had to
operate it. One person driving the tank from down below, and the other operating the
turret and gun. They had built-in sensors in the body and turret so if you got hit it
would disable the tank. If you hit the turret it would disable the gun for 15 seconds and
if you hit the body it would disable the driving system for 15 seconds. The gun used
compressed air to fire tennis balls. The compressor was driven off the motor. VERY, VERY
fun! and LOUD too when those tennis balls hit your tank. They had guns mounted around the
perimeter of the net-enclosed compound and you could buy a bucket of tennis balls to
shoot at the tanks too. There was a hopper on top of the gun which held the balls, and
you pulled back the bolt arm which loaded a ball and then you pulled the trigger. I have
often thought about how to construct one or two for myself. Wouldn't be too hard except
for the cost of the golf car.
