Gus Grissom was from Mitchell, IN, not far from where I grew up. I remember
going to the Grissom memorial space museum there on a grade school field
trip. This was back in the early seventies when the Apollo program had given
many of us the aerospace bug. Too bad that most kids today look at the space
program as just a routine thing and not the technical miracle that it is.

Roger B. Chaffee was from Grand Rapids, same as me, so he has a street named

after him. I cross it on the way to work, and salute each time. He's part of

the reason (ok, a BIG part of the reason) we have an Apollo boilerplate in
the city as well. Too bad so few even know who Roger Chaffee even is...
