Bad news.  That "pot" is really a synchro and rotates continuously with no
mechanical stops.

The "PUSH" command is for engaging a mechanical spring loaded gear that
connects the shaft of the synchro with the shaft of the knob when it is
pushed down.  In other words, you push it in so it engages with the synchro.
If you don't push it, it simply turns and does no action on anything.
