    BTW - Your X-Plane pit is a huge inspiration for me - well done!

    I think I have an idea for building a rotary switch. It would entail two separate disks each turned with a ratcheting mechanism but they ratchet in opposite directions. They would have "teeth" on the outer rim that would press a micro switch as it passes by. In one of my favorite sims the commands that control radar zoom are Z (+) and Shift-Z (-). This rotary switch could be wired for a Z keystroke when turned one click clockwise and Shift-Z  when turned counter-clockwise.
