Try basswood sometime. Great stuff for smaller plugs. Carves like soap
and holds decent detail. Fiberlay and a few other places sell casting
resin and fillers that, when mixed right, not only look like metal but
can be polished, too. Fun stuff.

My problem is coming up with plugs. I'm horrible at carving stuff.
That's why I want access to a stereolitho machine :) I can make a CAD
drawing in Solid Edge, but turning it into the real thing is a bit more
difficult.
