If you get a loaner of real ones to make the knobs will it be easier ?

Yeah, that about sums it up.

When I get closer to doing this I might talk to everyone about preordering
knobs.  If the interest is high enough, then I would solicit some sort of
deposit and move from there.

I believe that I would prefer to sell direct.
