My theory behind all this is that the pilot pickled the missile but got a
misfire and the missile was left on the pylon. Having pickled the missile
would the clamps not be disengaged? If so when he came into land it simply
slid off the pylon. The smoke trail may be caused by the missile fins
running along the carrier deck, although the way the smoke flows it looks
like it has been ignited.
The heavy weighting can be explained by boundary layer air. All moving
things in a wind have this property but it is generally only noticed on
aircraft. This essentially creates a vacuum which would the suck the smoke
down. Another theory would be due to gravity with smoke particles being
heavier than air.
Either way its funny as hell especially the guy with the white helmet
running like hell. What makes the white guy even better though are some of
his possible roles:-
Air wing quality control personnel,
Squadron plane inspector,
Safety Observer
"Let's kick the tires and light the fires"
