Hi John,

As I'm registered in a virtual squadron ( www.quebecairforce.com ), we
are flying there in realistic mode only (as many others squad)

Have a look of our homebase site. My callsign as pilot is Surfin' .

I'm there because it's a francophone squadron (Quebec, France, Swiss,
Belgium...)

Believe me, the best thing you could do to improve your F-16 avionics
knowledge and have a lot more fun will to register in a virtual
squadron. It's really the top !

There, during your "school sessions" as a Cadet, you could practice,
train and be rated by your teacher.

Lessons are from Landing to Search/ Destroy bandits.

Then after school, there is final exam and the graduation, You will be a
pilot and be in a regular flight.

With internet technology, you could talk to your teacher and hear him
during a Falcon's flight session. Did you know that ?
During our flights, we usually use the NATO terminology for our audio
communications between us.

What is your version of Falcon 4?
1) just a fresh install (no patch) That is really not the vest thing
or
2) patched in RP5
or
3) patched in superpak 3 (or 2 ..)

About dogfight, I use sometimes 2 D cockpit view at beginning. After the
Padlock view.
First tip : When you have a padlock on a bandit, don't loose padlock
before you shoot him down...
If not.....hmmm... you are quite dead

In realistic mode, there is not a perfect radar mode

RWR is great to have an idea of the situation.
Exemple, : Mig 21 six o'clock.

TWS is a good mode for a primary search and multi track.
It's quite slow to search with it but there's an advantage : it's
quite silent for bandits.

RWS is good too but a little bit more "noisy" than TWS

Speed Velocity is great to have an idea of a radar spot's speed.

Have a nice day and hope that help you.
Falcon 4 is the best !
See u, maybe in Korean skies...

Bye from France,
Jean-Yves JOUANNY

So this is really embarrassing. My eight-year-old son and I build an
F-16
cockpit so we can mess around the Falcon 4. Now he is scoring higher
than me
in realistic mode in the instant action arena.

I am starting to read the manual -- this is really heavy stuff!

For those of you who fly Falcon 4 I would like to take a poll:

1. Which mode do you fly in? Easy, simplified or realistic
2. Which screen or screens do you use for tracking a bandit during a
dogfight? Padlock?, HUD only, two-dimensional cockpit view, situational

awareness bar?
3. Once you mix it up with a bandit and dispatch him, I usually totally
lose
situational awareness -- I don't know which direction I am pointing --
how do
you find the other bad guys? (Please place in order of priority) RWR,
radar
(what mode or modes are best for searching?), bank the Jets 90 degrees
and
spin around 360 degrees looking for bandit's, fly the jet straight and
level
and use the view buttons to look around, ask the AWACS where everything
is,
or "other" (please explain).
4. How many people have completed all of the training missions
successfully?
Which ones for the most difficult? I had trouble with the instrument
landings.
5. Speaking of instrument landings, I was surprised at how complex the
knowledgebase had to be. I.e. understanding the TACAN mode and dialing
in
the proper numbers to intercept the glide slope. Who amongst us has a
firm
understanding of all of this?

What a hobby! We all have to wear at least four hats. Master craftsman

(including woodworking, metal shop, painting, fiberglass), computer
specialist -- writing programs and connecting wires; professional
instrument
rated jet pilot and don't forget the day job which we need to finance
this
crazy obsession.
