Well, driving 8 digits seems most obvious.  The problem with going to
alphanumeric displays is that they are very hard to get in small sizes.
(<0.50" high)  You can get 0.54" digits for about $1.10 US each.  Does
anyone have a decent source for small alphanumeric LED displays?
