It's about time they gave the F15 drivers something harder to hit. And with the new missle technologies they need something with more speed and agility than an F4 to verify their usefulness.

Holloman F-4Fs pick off a few QF-16s as "Revenge of

AND FINALLY! The REAL truth about F-16s...

WARNING: The following contains the unbiased opinion
of the driver of a much better fighter...

>From a recent AW&ST mag: Apparently the impending
shortage of aerial targets for use in missile and
fighter systems testing is becoming critical enough
for the USAF to request proposals from some of the
leading aerospace defense contractors. Although the
sub-scale program will likely continue with an all new
target drone, the full-scale aerial target problem
continues with the diminishing availability of
suitable F-4 airframes for conversion to QF-4. The
current leading solution is Lockheed's program to
convert several hundred "Fighting Falcons" to QF-16
standard, allowing them to replace the QF-4 in the
role of target for new/standardized missile testing at
both the Weapons System Evaluation Program at Tyndall
AFB, and other developmental tests at White Sands
Missile Range, NM.

Finally, a role for which the "mighty" Fighting Falcon
is aptly suited: target. Or, as many already prefer to
call the manned version: Eagle Training Aid.

Hee hee...
