As mentioned earlier, I have a partially completed spitfire cockpit in my
basement. I have since been scouring the net for information regarding this
war bird. I have a couple questions regarding the rudder pedals / leg room.
In my replica the 'floor' where the rudder pedals would go is open. Looking
at photos such as this one:

http://www.simpits.org/database/WWII_cockpits/Spit_Mk-IX_1.jpg

it appears there's about 12" from the front of the seat to the edge of the
panel and about another 8-10" to the back of the rudder pedals. Can anyone
confirm this? How much travel do the pedals have?

As well, regarding the pedals & the pit in general - how does one climb into
/ out of these things. There's no place to put your feet on the way in or
out. The pedals appear to be nearly veritical with 2 'ribbed' tubes to rest
your foot on and a 1" leather strap that hooks over your toes. Does that
sound about right?
