this is not exactly what happened, the pilot was a very well trained pilot
and not a student, and since the upper lair of the wing was still in tact
( though very deformed )
the pilot didn't know he didn't have a wing.

another story about this pilot is that when he went to the factory to be
questioned about the incident, he saw an aircraft landing, and told the
person that was with him that the plain is going to crash on landing, and
what do you know, as soon as the plain touched down, he crashed and the
pilot ejected successfully.
