Are you talking about the mail archive at
http://www.simpits.org/pipermail/simpits-tech/ ?  If so, no, you can't
search the archive, but you can view by subject which might help.  The
lion's share of the data you're probably after is in the new FAQ that
Derek is working very hard on right now.

You also have the option of downloading the whole message archive and
searching it manually within a word processor or other text editing tool.
