You've still got the messy etching to do, but yes,
eliminating all of the photographic stuff brings board
prototyping into the hobbyist domain.

I live on the Central Coast Albert. A bit north of
you. 

I must confess, I'm not actually building a pit. I'm
building a miniature MD83 control panel (just dials,
switches, and buttons - no indicators). I'm working
totally from scratch using an AVR microcontroller for
the smarts. The AVR will send serial data to the PC in
the SerialKeys format. The final panel will basically
be a specialised keyboard.

I've just completed building the AVR programmer and
will test it out on the weekend. I'll probably end up
using the gcc tools under linux to do the
programming/debugging .
