hi,

resolution - 1024x768 is getting more affordable now. higher gets much more
expensive.

lumens - how bright the projected display is - 1100 works in dark rooms
nicely. the more the better, but watch out for those bulb prices (and heat
generated).

contrast ratio - similar to the values in LCDs, the higher the better.

LCD, triLCD, DLP - differing technologies for creating the image. i have a
DLP (digital light processor) because the contrast factors were very high.
they also process video-type signals very well. it also does not suffer
from LCD 'transitions'. i am extremely pleased with the picture quality.

INPUTS - VGA, S-video are the two most important.

sooner or later you are going to want to watch a DVD with that thing. i
recently watched 2001 on a laptop equipped DVD which went to the VGA input
on the projector. "progressive scan" has very little to offer in
comparison. it was completely free of video artifacts, and was like GOING
TO THE MOVIES. there was no comparison with a video-based DVD player. all
my buddies with their large TVs can't match my 8 foot screen.

you can get a really good setup for about $3500 - $3800 (US) nowadays. this
is down by about $1000 for the same specs 2 years ago.

for loads of advice and confusion.

enjoy,
