[simpits-tech] Memory Lane....

HI Jonas,

I totally understand! You are lucky, when I was younger ( in the early 90's)
the airlines were NOT hiring.I went into the simulation industry as a SECOND
choice. I wanted to have the career that my father had. He has well over
35,000 flight hours in a list of airplanes a mile long, including combat in
Viet Nam off aircraft carriers.( for anyone who is interested he is a fairly
famous author and his stories can be read in the TAIL HOOK MAGAZINE< or
online on their website; as the FURTHER ADVENTURES OF YOUTHLY PURESOM ( his
alter ego)
I have seen and been in the EMB 145 sim at AA's flight acadamy here in
Dallas. That plane has one hell of an impresive cockpit. It looks like a
space ship. I also like its visiblity out the window and I like the Y shaped
Control wheel "horn".
I did one time fly "secretly" in the jumpseat on Delta, he was flying 727's
in the middle 80's and we landed in Monroe LA. Every one got off the plane,
and no passengers got on for the continuation of the flight to DFW.The
flight attendants asked my father if he and the rest of the crew would let
me sit in the jump seat. This is not allowed in the usa, or on Delta, but
they decided to let me anyway. The rule was no talking ( so my voice would
not show up on the CVR) and to keep my head down during pushback. I cannot
begin to tell you how my heart beat like crazy as they started the engines..
I was in heaven. That was my first jumpseat ride. I used to go with him as a
non-rev following him around on trips. I loved it. Doing that later on on
foriegn airlines was even better cause I could talk, and sit in the pilots
seats for periods of time. At JFK in the Iberia Airlines 747 in the 80s I
got to stick my head out of the overhead hatch while we were taxing out to
take off...we were in a line of 12 or more jumbo jets and I had my head
sticking out of this little hatch while the engines were running!
If you go on to fly for Cathay, I will use them on my Pacific crossings and
I EXPECT you to let me JUMPSEAT ok????? PRetty please?

Chris
