Hi to all,
instead try to built a motion simulation platform by yourself better use hardware from a rock n ride chair.
I have started in late summer 2001 to built a f-16 pit who works ( its 50 % finished) with the motion chair.
Here a the specs:
- around 60 leds with 2 mm 5541 led driver chips who works with the great lightdriver program from Rob Favre
- Keyboard encoders: Hagstrom KE 72 and a hacked cherry progammable keyboard in the future
- Motion: modified rock n ride who interacts with falcon 4.0 SP2
(using pitch and roll data from the the shared memory to get motion data )
- Sound: loudspeaker and transducer for vibration
- visuals: fresnel lens
I send the whole story and a lot of pics to the simpits website.
(If you looking for cheap knobs who looks good do a trip to a car cemetery. I have found there
nice knobs who fit perfect to the pit and paid only 3 $ for 6 sharp looking knobs.)

Hi Ben,
i have uploaded a pic to the simpit web site member files, look for the last one "left".jpg,
take also a look to
http://www.motionsystems.de/start_rnr.htm
go here to the "segelflieger" (glider) project to see
what you can do with rock n ride hardware

Hi Rob,
i believe the rock n ride construction can take a weight over 300 pounds, the trick is to balance the project, i have a weight around 200 pounds, no problem for the rock ( he can lift all my panels too) , if the facing from he project is well balanced there is no real weight limit
i hope i can do a good facing or my profect in the future

Hi Ken,
no problem, i can give you a good suppot in the future, first take a look at rocknride.net for the first questions, go to faq and download the plans, then tell me what your exact questions are

Hi Ken,
dont be frustrated, its not easy to get this monster too move
ok, here is my first check list
1. go to the link motionsystems.de/rnr/,
2. go to profile
3. download "msim.dll"
4. download "alle profile gepackt" means all profiles
5. unzip the files
6. copy msim.dll to windows/system,
reboot system
7. set control selector on the motherboard from the rock n ride to "digital",
8. connect the seriell cable with the rock n ride"serial in" and com2 off the computer
start the compressor and the power on
9. start profil "joystick.exe"
10. now the rock n ride must move with the joystick movements
if not we do another test
(forget the patches at the moment, because we must first get the motion)

Hi Ken,
maybe this could be the fault but nevertheless try it with com1 before we do the next test

ok ken,
no problem,
lets do the next test,
1. switch the rock mainboard to analog
2. push a joystick direct into the mainboard joystick extension
3. turn power on
4. start compressor
5. the rock must now move with the joystick movemnet,
if not we check the components

Hi Albert,
yes, they use the hardware from the rock n ride for F1 simulator, glider simulators, cart simulator and so on,
because the chair is a cheap 2 axis simulation platform who runs with ordinary air compressors. With a little fantasy you can built your own motion pit. The trick is a good facing and you did not see that iT was a modified "ordinary" rock n ride chair. the chair have a weight around 50 kilo and can lift maximal 25 kilos (for the monitor and panels)
People who use it can have a weight to 150 kilos and if you balanced the facing there is no real weight limit, look for your f1 race simulator and other rock n ride based simultors at
http://www.motionsystems.de/
or take a look at my pit (without facing)
at the simpit member file site,

Hi Albert,
im glad you like my work,
yes, i need a small ladder to get into my pit, but that is funny. ok, the maximum weight load on the seat is around 150 kg. the maximum load of the monitor is 25 kg, that is the balance i am talking about, the donīt loose the structure if the monitor have more kilos but the rock doesnt work, (dont go up) so my english is not so good take a look at the rocknride.net for the specs in better english.
